Mom's Uzume socks, being knitted from the toe-up. The toe-up conversion was really simple! And the lace pattern is such a breeze that I had it memorized after two repeats, which makes for extra-easy subway knitting. The yarn and lacy openwork are both turning out to be beautiful, and my mom loves the color. (I'm going to have to convince her that they're not too fancy to wear!)
And it turned out that it's a good thing I didn't have these finished in time for gifting, because my original sizing was a little too small. I had gotten just beyond the heel by her birthday -- just far enough to try them on properly -- and it turned out they were too short (her feet are more than just a little bit bigger than mine, apparently...). Luckily, I had thought to put a lifeline just before the heel, so I just ripped back and turned the heel again after a few extra rows. Now I'm progressing steadily up the leg. Whew!
