Exploring Rituals took place on a cold afternoon at two residential homes in Near Northside. The Borderlines living room art production explored how ritual commemorations - shrines, altars, ritablos, temples, performances and gestures - mediate history and memory along two border regions: US-Mexico and India-Pakistan-Bangladesh.

Some highlights of the project included: VBB "passports" created by Robert Pruitt and Ana Laurel that determined which spaces audience members would be allowed to visit; digital art (prints and videos from Pakistan and Bangladesh); performance art by Monica Villarreal and her team as "border control" agents; story-telling by Chroniclers Nusrat Ameen, Rob Block, Maria Gonzalez, Raul Ramos, Zakia Sarwar and Elora Shehabbudin, and Samhita Sunya; shrines/altars with found objects by on-site artists; performance art by Autumn Knight; and a live mushaira (poetry jam) in Punjabi and Urdu.

Special thanks to volunteers VBB Board Members Carmen Peña Abrego and Gordon Anderson and students from Lamar High School.
