Traian Vuia in the Airplane-Automobile No.1 [France, 1906]
In the early years of the 20th century Paris was the centre of aviation activity. As such it attracted developers from all countries. An early aviator was the Romanian Traian Vuia (as written in the Romanian language).
This is his first design - identified as the Airplane-Automobile No.1. Picture was taken on 18 March 1906 at La Montesson (Paris). The engine is above the head of the inventor who is sitting at the wheel. The Serpollet engine gave about 25 hp, feeded on carbonic gas. As can be seen there is a rudder, but no elevator.
Vuia taxied around but did not leave the ground.
