Cooler lockers in the Vancouver General Hospital morgue
A pathology assistant examines a body stored in the cooler lockers. Bodies involved in police investigations are stored in these chambers, also known as crypts, since they can be locked. Bodies remaining at the morgue for longer than a few days are also stored in the crypts since the temperature of each crypt can be adjusted.
Vancouver Coastal Health's Vancouver General Hospital morgue is where bodies are stored until they are identified and claimed, or until arrangements for burial or cremation are made. The VGH morgue also performs autopsies in order to determine how someone died.
