¡VAMOS! Leeds 5 took place at Millennium Square as part of the annual ‘Summer Series’ on Sunday 21 July 2019.


Curated by DJ Lubi Jovanovic (Calle Ocho/Soul Rebels/¡VAMOS! Leeds) the day featured:


▶ Son Yambu - with authentic Cuban Son and Salsa vibes via London!


▶ Ortiga

Combining Pop, Cumbia, Salsa and electronic Merengue!


▶ Dance Emporium Salsa Kids - group performance from the next generation of salseros!

▶ Mestisa - acoustic quartet with Andean and traditional Latin American compositions

▶ Dance Emporium Samba Team with Samba meets Baile Funk

▶ Suéli Gil Band - Brazilian Bossa Nova / MPB

▶ Ella Mesma Dance - premiere of youth dance project ’The Masks We Wear’

▶ Leeds Samba - Unidos do Ritmo - with authentic Brazilian Samba and carnival drumming


Plus the best Latin DJs in the North with DJ Fabio Bahia, Lubi Jovanovic and Chris Welch


Alongside the music and dance, Brazilian visual artist Flavio Morais held a drop-in workshop in support of his new artwork at Merrion Gardens. Flavio worked with young people from CATCH Leeds towards the development of the mural.


This commission has been supported by Arts Council England, Wade's Charity and Leeds City Council.
