The project began in 1999 with the successful replacement of the James River Bridge and Broad Street bridges.

Since then, VDOT has accumulated funds to restore the remaining 11 bridges along this vital transportation corridor.

This four year project covers a seven-mile stretch of I-95 between Lombardy Street in Richmond and Upham Brook in Henrico County. It will be completed in the following phases:
1.General roadway and under-bridge repairs (through spring 2012)

2.Laburnum Avenue bridge (one of two spans replaced, I-95 southbound, Oct. 21-Nov. 7, 2011)

3.Westwood Avenue, Hermitage Road and the I-95 ramps over the Boulevard

4.Overbrook Road, Sherwood Avenue and Robin Hood Road bridges

5.Upham Brook (both north and southbound bridges)

6.Lombardy Street/CSX bridge
