tacoma beer...

The label originated at the Pacific Brewing & Malting Company of Tacoma Washington between 1897 & 1916 when Wa. State prohibition went into effect…Thinking that the nation would not follow the trend and ‘go dry’, they decided to build a plant in San Francisco, Ca., while the Washington plant produced a ‘near-beer’ called Pacific Foam…They built the plant at 1550 Bryant St, the same building which one day would be owned by Theodore Hamm, across the street from the future home of the San Francisco Giants, Seal Stadium…Of course, in 1919, the nation did go dry and it wasn’t until FDR was elected President and lifted the ban on Jan 1, 1934…In that time, the company was sold to the Rainer Brewing Company and an offshoot company was formed, The Tacoma Brewing Company, which produced several labels including Tacoma Pale Beer & Tacoma Bock Beer…They folded the business sometime after 1939…

This is what links Tacoma Beer to the San Francisco region...

Of course, Acme Beer is a San Francisco legend operating between 1907 & 1954…It is still debated weather or not it was consumed by Wile E. Coyote...
