Midsummer Insomnia

What do you do when it's 31 degrees in your apartment and noisy neighbours don't even allow you to keep your window open at night? You jump in a car and drive. Drive many miles away, where you can enjoy the amazing spectacle that is the starry night sky.

Finding nice night sky is quite hard in Tuscany - the Northern plains between Florence and Pisa are pretty densely populated, resulting in heavy light pollution in the North of the region. It takes almost 2 hours to reach the central part of Tuscany, where, amidst the natural reserves of Berignone and Monterufoli, it really does get peaceful and quiet.

I found this bale of hay near the village of Montecastelli Pisano and I thought it looked great with the galaxy shining above. I tried to use the shallow depth of field of my Samyang 24mm to defocus the stars in contrast to the pin-sharp hay, but the effect wasn't as strong as I'd hoped for. Oh well, I really liked how the image turned out anyway.
