Radio Shack TRS-80 Computers

This is a computer lab at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, ca. 1980, where students used Radio Shack TRS-80 computers. The TRS-80 was introduced in 1977 and was notable for its relatively small size, the fact that it came standard with a monitor, and a $600 starting price. Data was stored not on a hard drive, but a cassette tape, which could be unreliable.

Ever since the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire opened its doors in 1916 as the Eau Claire State Normal School, technology has played an important role in the education of generations of students. This album illustrates how technology has changed, from typewriters to computers, from records to reel-to-reel tape, and everything in between.
