The International Partnership for Nuclear Disarmament Verification -IAEA- 11/19/2019
The Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) organized a roundtable with Mr. Frank A. Rose, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control, Verification, and Compliance, and Ambassador Bente Angell-Hansen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Austria and Resident Representative to the IAEA, entitled 'The International Partnership for Nuclear Disarmament Verification'; which was held on Thursday, 19 November 2015 at 12:30 in the VCDNP Conference Room.
Mr. Frank Rose discussed a new initiative to enhance security and stability in an effort to reduce and eliminate nuclear weapons: the International Partnership for Nuclear Disarmament Verification (IPNDV). The Partnership brings together both nuclear-weapon and non-nuclear-weapon-states under a cooperative framework to further understand and find solutions to the challenges involved in the verification of nuclear disarmament. The Partnership will consider verification challenges across the nuclear weapons lifecycle and will build on lessons learned from the U.S.-UK Technical Cooperation Program and the UK-Norway Initiative. Mr. Rose provided further details about the Partnership and discussed how it can help strengthen the existing work towards nuclear disarmament verification. The IPNDV will be holding its second meeting in Oslo, Norway, from November 16 to 18, where it intends to finalize the terms of reference for the IPNDV's three working groups. Ambassador Angell-Hansen provided comments on the Oslo meeting and discussed Norway's approach to nuclear disarmament, which seeks to engage with all parties to the NPT.
