120610-N-SF704-016 PACIFIC OCEAN (June 10, 2012) - Aviation Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class Christopher Cogar from Cleveland, left, and Aviation Machinist’s Mate Airman Asunta Allen from San Diego measure a high-pressure turbine shaft before installing it into a F-414 jet engine in the jet shop aboard the U.S. Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). Sailors working in George Washington's jet shop maintain, repair and test damaged jet engines. George Washington departed Fleet Activities Yokosuka on May 26 to begin its 2012 patrol. George Washington and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, provide a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interest of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Asia-Pacific region.
