The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) alongside partner federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies conduct enforcement operations focusing on violent fugitives during the latest phase of its high-impact fugitive apprehension initiative, Operation North Star (ONS) FY 2024.
ONS FY 2024 commenced May 10 and concluded Sept. 13, targeting fugitives with arrest warrants for the most egregious offenses, to include homicide, forcible sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault with a firearm and firearms charges related to convicted felons. The USMS prioritized fugitives with signals of the use of a firearm in their crime and those with a high number of risk factors for violence.
There were 10 cities selected for ONS FY2024 based on data from the National Crime Information Center and the FBI Uniform Crime Report, as well as DOJ priorities. The other cities included North Charleston, South Carolina; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Little Rock, Arkansas; Phoenix, Arizona; St. Louis, Missouri (to include East St. Louis, Illinois); Birmingham, Alabama; Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Dayton, Ohio; and San Antonio, Texas.
