Record proton smack-down in CMS
This is one of the first proton collision events at the new world-record energy of 8 TeV in the LHC. The large number of tracks detected here by CMS comes from a large "pile-up" in which there are 29 separate collisions in a single crossing of two proton bunches in the beam. At these energies, the data physicists are seeking will pile up rapidly as well.
