Jenny Sanders helps a student with animal identification

The Service’s Asheville Field Office recently helped Mainspring Conservation Trust and the Coweeta Long Term Ecological Research program with the 2016 Kids in the Creek event for Macon County, North Carolina. The event brings Macon County eight-grade students out to Cartoogechaye Creek, where they rotate through fish, macroinvertebrate, water chemistry, and hydrology stations. Cartoogechaye Creek is a tributary to the Little Tennessee River, home to Federally-listed aquatic species such as the spotfin chub and Appalachian elktoe.
