Loggerhead baby

Loggerhead sea turtles begin life out of their nest about the size of a silver dollar. If they survive (most do not) they can grow to be the largest hard-shelled turtles in the world. When you're on Roanoke Island visit National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center. Open year 'round Mon-Sat 9:00 am-4:00 pm & Sunday noon-4:00 pm. The Visitor Center is free and filled with exhibits, interactive displays, an art show, gift shop and a small movie theater. Alligator River and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuges are open daylight hours year-round. Explore!
