North Carolina biologist TR Russ holding an sicklefin redhorse
The sicklefin redhorse is a rare fish found only in the western tip of North Carolina, and a slight part of North Georgia. In an effort to help boost populations, biologists from the Fish and Wildlife Service, N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and Conservation Fisheries, Inc., work together to collect and fertilize eggs, which are then raised in the safety of captivity, to be stocked back into the rivers where they were collected.
