Delaware Bay Estuary Project
Photos taken during the Delaware Bay Spring Shorebird Migration at Mispillion Harbor, Delaware. The Delaware Bay hosts the largest concentration of spawning horseshoe crabs in the world. Several species of shorebirds depend upon the excess eggs for food during their stopover as they migrate to their Arctic nesting grounds. The redknot (Calidris canutus) is highly dependent upon this stopover, making it one of the most important in the Western Hemisphere for shorebirds.
