Protecting Homes Proactively

Mashpee, Massachusetts, April 5, 2012. Kate Iaquinto, a wildlife biologist for Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge works at a controlled burn at the Town of Mashpee Holland Hill Barrens area of Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge. Iaquinto helped keep the controlled burn contained by keeping its west flank watered. The burn reduced fire risk to neighboring homes and improved habitat for the New England cottontail. It was conducted by the Town of Mashpee, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, State of Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, and Northeast Forest and Fire Management.
