Unruly Females

Male elk are famous for fighting during the mating season, but "boxing matches" between female elk can also occur throughout the year. Aggression between female elk is usually related to competition for local food sources. The two females here are next to a line of alfalfa pellets laid down that morning as part of the refuge's supplemental feeding program.
