Gesser Prairie Chicken
In a narrow geographic area of western Kansas, the overlapping ranges of lesser prairie-chicken (tympanuchus pallidicinctus) and greater prairie-chicken (tympanuchus cupido) result in occassional hybrization. The resulting hybrid often shows physical features from both species, but is most easily identified by vocalizations during springtime leking rituals.
