Barn Owl

Barn Owls (Tyto alba) have excellent night vision, but experiments have shown that they can catch their prey using acoustic location alone. Their unique facial disks allow them to localize sounds, enabling them to pinpoint prey location and its direction of movement. These Barn Owls were hatched on the refuge in 2003.
