American Bittern

The American bittern (Botaurus lentiginosis) is a member of the heron family. While relatively common, it can be very difficult to spot in the rushes and reeds at the edges of wetlands. It will stand motionless with its bill straight in the air to make it even more difficult to pick out of it's surrounding cover. Check out the next photo to see what their nest looks like.
