Wood Duck Drake and Green headed Mallards

This lone wood duck drake appeared out of a flock of mallards that were found overwintering on a small creek in South Dakota.

Wood Duck populations increased between 1966 and 2010, according to the North American Breeding Bird Survey. This is good news considering their dramatic declines in the late 19th century.
