00:00:01.960 --> 00:00:07.360
My name is Jennifer Strotman, and I'm a fish and wildlife biologist for the Ventura Fish and Wildlife office.
00:00:07.360 --> 00:00:12.400
It took me a long time just to find my little place in the science world, because I just didn't have the
00:00:12.400 --> 00:00:16.870
confidence to pursue science, but after the military I had to rethink
00:00:16.870 --> 00:00:21.820
my career path. So I really got excited about ecosystems,
00:00:21.820 --> 00:00:25.210
and the environment and all the different ways that humans
00:00:25.210 --> 00:00:30.280
and animals interact, and the plants that are involved.
00:00:30.280 --> 00:00:36.960
So the biodiversity was really important to me. It took me, until I was in my early twenties to realized I had
00:00:36.960 --> 00:00:41.660
the capability of going into the science field. It doesn't happen for everybody when their four,
00:00:41.660 --> 00:00:45.750
or ten or fifteen. It happen to me when I
00:00:45.750 --> 00:00:50.660
was twenty-one years old, injured out of the army and having to rethink my entire life plan.
00:00:50.660 --> 00:00:54.280
So sometimes it takes a while, but you always kinda default
00:00:54.280 --> 00:01:00.840
to that one thing. And the one true linear thing in my life has always been animals, and the outside.
00:01:00.840 --> 00:01:06.950
So I was like, what thing combines those two things what I love the absolute most?
00:01:06.950 --> 00:01:11.940
And that was biology. I couldn't be where I am today without solid mentors,
00:01:11.940 --> 00:01:13.020
being brave,
00:01:13.020 --> 00:01:15.400
And, being socially awkward and jumping out and
00:01:15.400 --> 00:01:20.300
asking someone to please help me. And not only to overcome my shyness
00:01:20.300 --> 00:01:24.940
but also to overcome dyslexia, and to embrace it and let it work to my advantage.
00:01:24.940 --> 00:01:30.290
This is Poppy my service dog and she goes to work with me every day .
00:01:30.290 --> 00:01:33.300
Poppy's favorite things are being silly.
00:01:36.300 --> 00:01:40.740
Going on hikes, playing with her kitty sisters., and playing with all her friends.
