Dynamic Islands - Frontiers for new discoveries
Many of Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge islands are volcanic. They provide great places to learn about the natural forces that shape these islands and the creatures that call them home.

Bogoslof has been a dynamic place for hundreds of years, it's shapeshifting fueled by volcanic engines and sculpted by wind, waves, and tides. As of 2016 every inch of the island was wriggling with life. Marine mammals ringed its shores, and seabirds nested in every niche. Birds filled the sky on summer days as they shuttled back and forth with food for their young. Alaska Maritime National wildlife Refuge's Bogoslof Island vastly changed and increased in size after a series of eruption events in 2016 & 2017.
