The United States issued this 4-cent stamp in honor of Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919), industrialist, philanthropist, and founder of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.


Pittsburgh industrialist Andrew Carnegie donated money to build the Peace Palace in The Hague, the Netherlands, (completed 1913) and a library of international law.
