In a colorful atmosphere spiced with dance, music, and a real Uncle Sam on stilts, guests of the American Embassy in Israel gathered to celebrate election night and the American democratic process. Hundreds of guests from Israel joined Embassy staff in watching election coverage, meeting with Ambassador Daniel Shapiro, participating in election trivia and debate, and taking pictures with life-sized Obama and Romney cutouts. Red white and blue balloons, American hamburgers and hotdogs, and live rock music gave the night a true sense of Americana. The overall sense of celebration was accompanied by Ambassador Shapiro’s clear message, that regardless of the winner, the U.S. commitment to Israel is “everlasting” and “unshakable.”
