Embassy sends off “YES” exchange students for a year of study in America

80 students from across Indonesia attended an August 5 “buka puasa” Iftar dinner hosted by U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Kristen Bauer to celebrate the students’ departure for one year of study in the United States through the Youth Exchange & Study (YES) Program. During the year-long exchange program, the Indonesian students will live with homestay families and study at American high schools, where they will take classes and participate in extracurricular activities alongside American students. The Embassy works with local partner Bina Antarbudaya to run the YES student exchange program. This year’s YES exchange students faced stiff competition to be accepted into the program, which is fully funded by the U.S. government. For the first time ever, this year’s program includes students from Ambon, Papua, and one wheelchair-bound high school student. [U.S. State Dept.]
