American and Indonesian Defense Officials Participate in Defense Cooperation Seminar

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Daniel Chiu and U.S. Marine Corps LtGen Duane Thiessen accompanied U.S. Ambassador Scot Marciel February 9 to a seminar with Indonesian Defense Officials on the topic of Enhancing Defense Cooperation on Public Affairs. Military cooperation between our two countries focuses on four main areas: Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief; Peacekeeping Operations; Maritime Security; and Professionalization and Reform. Military cooperation is only one aspect of the U.S.-Indonesia bilateral relationship. Other cooperative areas, as mutually agreed upon in the Comprehensive Partnership, include education, trade and investment, environmental protection, democracy and human rights, and energy.
