U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) U.S. Forest Service scientist Bill Massman will be measuring atmospheric gas swirls (known as eddies) as they interact with the atmosphere and the ground as part of his assignment with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Mars Exploration Program. The Mars Exploration Program has made understanding the structure and processes operating in the Martian boundary its highest priority climate science goal. Massman was invited to join the NASA-funded gases project to develop an eddy covariance instrument for the Mars planet exploration. Photo of Mars courtesy NASA.
