Eight Fathom Cabin is loaded onto a barge for transport to its permanent location at Eight Fathom Bight. It is a new cabin that complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and serves as a public recreation cabin as well as provides for occasional agency administrative use. Its construction was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and allowed Icy Straits Lumber and Milling in Hoonah to keep employees on the payroll. Once completed, the structure was transported by barge to its current location, which is easily accessible by boat or plane. The cabin is furnished with a stove, table, benches, bunks, and has a full loft. This took place at Hoonhan, AK, on Wednesday, June 9, 2009.
