In the silver lining

A KC-135 Stratotanker with the 756th Air Refueling Squadron, Joint Base Andrews, Md., flies through storm clouds on their way to meet up with and refuel a C-17 Globemaster III with the 15th Airlift Squadron during exercise "Global Eagles" off the east coast of Florida on July 12, 2012. The KC-135 was the U.S. Air Force's first jet-powered refueling tanker and replaced the KC-97 Stratotanker. The Stratotanker was initially tasked to refuel strategic bombers, but was used extensively in the Vietnam War and later conflicts such as Operation Desert Storm to extend the range and endurance of US tactical fighters and bombers.
