Mangrove Planting in Davao City

DAVAO, INDONESIA - MARCH 2007. Community members restore coastal mangrove forests near Davao City in the Philippines. Mangroves are biodiversity hotspots, acting as nurseries for a variety of marine fish and invertebrates with local and/or commercial value. They also help mitigate and adapt to climate change by sequestering carbon above and below ground and shielding coastal communities from more frequent or intense storms, especially as sea levels rise.
