Orthoclase Cleavage (Not a stereo image)
Locality: Contact Mine, Arizona
This is a weathered chunk of orthoclase feldspar collected on a pegmatite near the Contact Mine. This break (cleavage) is very typical of large crystals of orthoclase that form in pegmatites.
The image on the right was produced by changing the light direction to reflect off of parallel cleavage faces. The very light "hot spots" represent these parallel cleavage faces - even in this weathered specimen.
