The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is supporting the federal response to the May 22, 2011 EF-5 tornado that devastated Joplin, Mo.,and neighboring communities. Working under the Federal Emergency Management Agency and led by the Corps' Kansas City District, Corps teams are overseeing debris removal, managing construction of critical temporary replacement facilities like schools and fire stations and building temporary housing sites for residents displaced by the tornado.
