U.S. Ambassador to Uganda Scott H. DeLisi and USAID Mission Director Leslie Reed join the 18 young Ugandan debaters for a group photo.
On March 20, Ambassador DeLisi and USAID Mission Director Leslie Reed joined an audience of 18 young Ugandan debaters for their third monthly meeting. This month’s debate focused on "Women and Gender Equality” and was facilitated by the Mission’s Political Officer, Danette Sullivan. Following general debate among the four teams, the members chose the best team to debate in presence of Ambassador DeLisi and Mission Director Reed. Ambassador and Mission Director Reed gave feedback on the overall performance of the team. They applauded all of the Debate Club members and encouraged them, as future leaders, to use their newly acquired debate skills.
This year, the Information Resource Center, in partnership with the Political Office, introduced the monthly debate program to encourage critical thinking, personal expression, and tolerance for others’ opinions. The debate club will take place once a month for a period of six months at the Embassy. Themes and topics to be discussed will vary each month.
