Helicopters supporting Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group fly with Japanese ships during routine patrol

EAST CHINA SEA (Mar. 8, 2017) - An MH-60R Sea Hawk from the "Blue Hawks" of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 78 flies near the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Murasame-class destroyer JS Samidare (DD 106) and the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), not pictured. The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment as part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of U.S. 3rd Fleet.
