Chaluay Kawaonag leads a disaster-preparedness meeting

Chaluay Kawaonag, (pictured at left) a housewife and mother of three, works actively in the community as the Chairperson of the local committee, and has emerged as a strong grassroots leader in recent years.

Even though her own house in Patum Thani province, 46 kms from Thailand’s capital city of Bangkok was badly affected by the flood waters in October, Chaluay Kawaonag is taking an active role in partnering with the UN Women-supported project to build a gender-sensitive community-based flood response and recovery plan.
