Boats were far too few during the floods

Boats were far too few during the floods. But they are essential, especially for the evacuation of the elderly, many of whom stayed on in their homes till the last minute, reluctant to move out in spite of the flood waters. As part of disaster-preparedness strategy, community leaders are now working with the local municipality and private companies to ensure that more boats are available to the community before the next monsoon season.
