The African Union (AU) in partnership with the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU), Oxfam International, and the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), organized a celebration of the International Day of Peace (Peace Day), under the theme, “Youth Participation in the Fight Against Corruption: Ensuring the Right to Peace”.

This event took place on 04 October 2018 and participants included representatives of AU Member States and of partner governments, youth organizations, civil society, academic institutions and international organizations.
Issues addressed included:

1. The nexus between the “Winning the Fight against corruption” and the “Right to Peace as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights”.
2. Anti-corruption mechanisms, opportunities and initiatives towards sustainable peace and human rights in Africa;
3. The role of the youth in the fight against corruption and promotion of peace and human rights and opportunities for enhancing youth engagement in peace and governance.

A local talent group performed a short play on the same topic.
