Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

    Newer Older

USC’s ties to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum date back to the stadium’s beginnings. On October 6, 1923, the university’s freshman football team played the dedication game there, crushing Santa Ana High 30 to 0. Afterward, during the first varsity football game ever held at the new stadium, the Trojans scored another victory, trouncing Pomona College 23 to 7 before a crowd of nearly 13,000. USC has been the stadium’s primary football tenant ever since. The Coliseum has hosted two Olympiads (1932 and 1984) and was declared a state and national historic landmark in 1984. It is located on 17 acres in Exposition Park, which also houses museums, gardens and the Los Angeles Sports Arena. (photo by Philip Channing)
