Col. Leonidas Compton Edwards Law Office 1
I’m still unable to be an active Flickr participant with bandwidth limits imposed by my ISP. Thank you for taking time to view this photo. If you comment, however, it’s still unlikely I’ll be able to return the favor, sad to say.

Built prior to 1882 as the law office of Col. Leonidas Compton Edwards, this structure was moved within the original lot and converted to a home early in the 20th century. It is in Oxford, North Carolina and it stands out as a very narrow house in a neighborhood of much larger structures. The detailing of this 2-bay frame structure is Italianate, the same style as the Edwards-Cannady House, Col. Edwards’ residence. The house has a low-pitch roof and small brackets in the cornice. There are two internal chimneys of corbelled brick. The rear of the structure might be an addition. The windows are narrow with 2 over 2 vertical panes. A pedimented hood tops the surround, the pediment supported by small brackets. The porch has features of a bungalow with tapered square columns (posts) mounted on brick piers. The entrance is a single-leaf wooden door with 15 panes; a beveled glass transom supported by small brackets caps the door [my shot of this is atrocious]. The balustrade is made of strips of wood in a diagonal pattern. The front window is somewhat larger than those on the sides. The Col. Leonidas Compton Edwards Law Office was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Oxford Historic District with ID #88000403 (added April 28, 1988)
