Destroying small arms in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
The MONUSCO mine action and DDR/RR sections organized a weapons destruction ceremony in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, in November 2013. Weapons, including AK-47 rifles and rocket propelled grenade launchers, were cut to render them permanently unusable. 926 small arms and light weapons and 38,801 pieces of small arms ammunition collected from demobilized ex-combatants were safely disposed.
