The chinese approach to the world map

In China world maps are "chino-centric" which means that they are not shown with China placed on the right side of it, as western countries use to do. The chinese approach shows the world with China in the middle of the map. This is a result of the chinese approach of the world, and their own conception of the importance of the country related to others. According to the chinese view over history China has been the most important and central country in the world (in fact until the XIXth century so it was).

The name "China" is pronounced "Zhōngguó" (simplified Chinese: 中国; traditional Chinese: 中國) which is translated traditionally as "Middle Kingdom," or as "central country". This is why China is placed in the middle of the world map, in the chinese maps.
