IOM Iraq and UNAMI Human Rights Office joint workshop on ethical and safe journalism in Baghdad
On 30 June, IOM Iraq and the Human Rights Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) held a joint workshop on ethical and safe journalism in Baghdad. The workshop included modules on human rights and ethical reporting practices, and a discussion on the impact that reporting may have on the safety and rights of individuals or groups. Writers and journalists representing various news channels and websites participated.
"It was a fruitful workshop where the media, both traditional and online, was discussed, as well as its impact on public opinion. The media considers its first responsibility to be towards society," said Wisam Al Mayali from the Iraqi Media Network.
The Ethical and Safe Reporting Workshop was funded by the Government of Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
