It makes me feel so alive

What do you think about growing older? Does your mind immediately leap to images of decline and deterioration? If so, you’re not alone, and these negative connotations are likely to have an impact on what you think is ‘possible’ in your own journey through later life.

My research attempts to challenge these stereotypes and present alternative ways of imagining the future; where ageing is seen as meaningful and fulfilling.

For over ten years I’ve been listening to and photographing people who are physically active in later life. Their inspiring accounts provide an insight into the role physical activity can play in their health and wellbeing, and shed light on the complex factors that affect a person’s inclination and ability to stay active over time.

I want to use these narratives and images to help change the way people perceive the ageing process – ultimately redefining how the older body is viewed.
