Ruey Tut Rue, 15, and 7th grade student did not go to school for three weeks due to the recent abduction of large numbers of children in the Gambella Region of Ethiopia by Murle pastoralists from South Sudan. He recalls his mother and brother being taken away through the incident. They still haven’t returned.

“I missed class for three weeks. I feel upset and my mind is not focused. If there was a library and varieties of books to read, it might relax my mind but we do not have one in our school. Reading complicated subjects such as biology and chemistry is now helping me to divert my attention from thinking about my mother.” © UNICEF Ethiopia/2016/Meklit Mersha
