A story of winter survival
The very same day two years before, the house of Nadezhda Danilovna was damaged by shelling in Verhnetoretskoe village. The woman miraculously survived. Reconstruction of walls, windows and electricity, 84-year-old pensioner had to perform at her own expense. However, Nadezhda Danilovna is greatly concerned that the roof is still leaking. "I have an old shiffer. I was walking around the village, asking for at least one sheet. And sometimes I had to pay money"- she recalls. During the meeting, Nadezhda Danilovna invited representatives of UNHCR Mariupol FO to her house to get warm. She lives alone. Children live in non-government controlled territory of Ukraine and cannot visit her. Nadezhda Danilovna just washed the floor, it is warm inside. The remains of her coal reserve for winter are burning down in the furnace. Nevertheless, it is only December. Elderly woman is very concerned about how to heat the house during the rest of the winter. Nadezhda Danilovna became a part of UNHCR winter program assistance and the remaining winter months she will spend in awarm house.
