Aerial shot of a washover fan at Onslow Beach
Beth VanDusen, research technician in the Rodriguez lab at IMS, pilots a quadcopter from the beach and takes aerial shots of a washover fan at Onslow Beach, NC.
This fan is changing shape at a fairly rapid pace, but researchers weren't able to accurately document these changes because satellite images of the area are only updated every couple of years. To solve this problem, the Rodriguez lab attached a GoPro camera to a quadcopter that can fly over and digitally capture the washover fan's changing formation. Photo credit: B.
