UN REDD Programme Nepal
With the technical support of the UN REDD Programme and its local partners ICIMOD and GIZ, Nepal successfully implemented its first-ever subnational REDD+ action plan in Chitwan District in 2017, which was later replicated in Ilam District.

Within most countries, there are differences across regions and forest ecosystems that make it essential for REDD+ planning and implementation to consider local needs.

A Sub-National REDD+ Action Plan tailors the National Strategy to suit local contexts and allow greater involvement
of local stakeholders in the planning process, which increases the transparency and sustainability of REDD+.
